Awaji Japanese 1900-1910 Art Deco Pottery Yellow Ceramic Iris Wall Pocket Huge and impressive conical wall pocket with iris on a brilliant yellow glaze. Excellent original condition. No chips, cracks, damage or repair. Stilt marks to rim. Wall pocket is 13 1/2" tall and 5" wide. Awaji pottery, produced on Awaji Island in Japan from the 1830s to the early 20th century, is celebrated for its vibrant glazes and innovative designs. Originally crafted as utilitarian ceramics, these pieces evolved into works of art during the Meiji and Taisho periods, influenced by both traditional Japanese techniques and Western styles like Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Known for their bold, glossy glazes in vivid yellows, greens, blues, and purples, Awaji pieces often feature crackled or textured finishes that make each item unique. Exported extensively to Europe and North America, Awaji pottery gained international acclaim for its elegance and craftsmanship, making it a highly collectible and historically significant addition to any collection.
