Selling FAQ

Does it cost anything to get an estimate?

If you are interested in selling with us, we provide estimates free of charge.

What if I can’t deliver my items to you?

We can help.  Depending on the location and size of the collection, we’ll coordinate the shipping, or we’ll pick it up before the auction. We also have staff and pickup capabilities in and around Peoria, IL; St. Louis, MO; Detroit, MI; Tampa and Miami, FL.

How much does it cost to sell my items at auction?

You receive the hammer price of lots sold less our commission and any agreed to expenses. The commission is based on the type size and value of the items and, agreed upon when you sign your consignment agreement. Expenses only include those which you have agreed to in relation to your lots (i.e. shipping, delivery, etc.) and are stated in your consignment agreement.

What happens after you receive my items?

Once your pottery is received, we will prepare complete descriptions including measurements and an accurate condition assessment. We provide detailed and accurate condition assessments and reports along with high quality and detailed photographs. Buyers and collectors take comfort in these condition assessments and in many cases are willing to bid higher resulting in more money for you as the consigner.

How do you promote my items?

In addition to our auction platform which is available and used by any Just Art Pottery client, each of our sales are posted on various third-party auction websites to ensure the maximum numbers of buyers see your items.  We promote each sale on a variety of search engines, social media sites and even run select print advertisements. Each auction is also prominently advertised on the home page of JustArtPottery.com which is the largest art pottery website and ensures your items are seen by the most prospective bidders.

How many lots are in your auctions?

Our auctions are smaller and typically will have no more than 300 lots and will consist of a wide variety of makers and styles of pottery, ceramics and decorative arts. We limit the size of our sales to make sure all items get the maximum attention of prospective bidders.

What if my items don’t sell at auction?

We will work with you to determine the best course of action for your items. They may be suited for an upcoming auction or for direct sale on our website. Rarely, we may return your items to you if we feel that’s the best option after we’ve used our expertise and nationwide connections to find a buyer.

When do I get paid?

We will send you a preliminary report detailing what lots were sold and at what price within one work. You will typically receive your payment within 30 days after the sale assuming all funds from the buyer are collected and cleared.
