Rookwood Art Pottery 1882 Trees, Bats, Moon Spanish Water Jug Maria Longworth Nichols Attractive Spanish water jug decorated by Rookwood's founder, Maria Longworth Nichols. Mrs. Nichols incised a very detailed design onto the vessel and then painted bats flying beneath a full moon, near some berry filled branches, and enhanced with fired on gold. Shows well with a restoration to the spout and handle. Bottom marked with ROOKWOOD, date, shape number, Y for yellow clay and cipher for Mrs. Nichols. Jug is 8 3/4" tall and 7 1/4" wide.
