Stunning and important Herman Mueller tile frieze that make a detailed and colorful town scene with a rock bridge over a river. Superior design and color with deeply carved detail. Excellent original condition. No chips, cracks, damage or repair of any kind. There are a few nicks to the the edge of the frame. Tiles are each 5 3/4" square. Tiles are 11 1/2" tall and 23" wide. The frame is 18" tall and 29 3/4" wide. Herman Carl Mueller was trained as a sculptor in Germany. He came to America in 1875 and formed the Mueller Tile Company in 1894. He produced arts and crafts tiles for many famous buildings the eastern states as well as the US embassy in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Mueller passed away in 1941 and the company closed the next year. This stone bridge panel is featured on page 149 of the American Art Tile book. From a prominent Midwest estate.
