Flint Faience, produced by the Flint Faience Tile Company in Flint, Michigan, between 1921 and 1933, is celebrated for its exceptional decorative tiles and art pottery. Originally a subsidiary of the Flint-based AC Spark Plug Company, the venture began as a creative reuse of kilns intended for spark plug production. Flint Faience quickly gained recognition for its bold, colorful glazes, intricate hand-painted designs, and craftsmanship. The pottery and tiles often feature Art Deco, Arts and Crafts, and Spanish Revival influences, incorporating geometric patterns, floral motifs, and vibrant, richly textured glazes. Flint Faience tiles were widely used in architectural applications, such as fireplaces, fountains, and interiors, prized for their beauty and durability.Though the company’s production was short-lived, closing during the Great Depression, Flint Faience remains highly sought after by collectors for its artistic quality and historical significance. These rare pieces are a testament to American innovation and the enduring appeal of early 20th-century decorative ceramics.
